we're currently using the stock AT&T fiber router. it has bit us multiple times in weird ways. we want to replace with homegrown device we have full control over. steps:

fix IP assignments on all servers (stop relying on dhcp) -
open up the dedicated box that fedi was running on and:-
identify hard drive type and order replacement (current one is unacceptably slow)-
it's 2.5" SATA

identify available PCIE type for dual NIC-
16 lane PCI3

order dual nic -
purchase long-enough pre-made CAT-6 to run from AT&T router to custom router

after parts come, install them
-
install opnsense on the router

configure router
