⛰️ProjectsRouter Replacement

we're currently using the stock AT&T fiber router. it has bit us multiple times in weird ways. we want to replace with homegrown device we have full control over. steps:

  1. fix IP assignments on all servers (stop relying on dhcp)

  2. migrate fedi to cluster

  3. open up the dedicated box that fedi was running on and:

    1. identify hard drive type and order replacement (current one is unacceptably slow)

      1. it's 2.5" SATA

    2. identify available PCIE type for dual NIC

      1. 16 lane PCI3

    3. order dual nic

    4. purchase long-enough pre-made CAT-6 to run from AT&T router to custom router

  4. after parts come, install them

  5. install opnsense on the router

  6. configure router

  7. complet
